Privacy
Merlinsbeard Pty Ltd keeps ActivityLine deliberately small, including its data footprint.
The app on your Mac
Everything ActivityLine measures stays on your Mac. CPU, GPU, memory and network readings, the names and icons of the apps behind them, and the destinations it shows you are read, displayed, and discarded locally. The app itself has no analytics and no telemetry, and it does not upload your activity to us or to anyone else — the analytics described below belong to this website, not to the app. Trial timing is kept locally on your Mac.
What we collect
The only data we hold about you is what an order needs: a purchase record containing your email address, the license key issued to it, which devices it is activated on, and the amount and date of the transaction. We keep it to deliver the license, answer support questions, process refunds, and meet our tax and accounting obligations. If you email us, we keep that correspondence too.
Those records live in Polar, our merchant of record, rather than in a database of our own — but we can see them and act on them, so they are ours to look after. We do not build profiles from them, sell them, or use them to market to you.
Payments
Polar is our payment provider and merchant of record. Polar collects and processes your payment details, including your card information, to take payment and to meet its own tax and anti-fraud obligations, and handles them under its privacy policy. Those details are entered on Polar’s checkout and never reach us: we receive confirmation of the purchase, not the card behind it.
Licensing checks
When ActivityLine activates or re-checks a license it sends the license key and the identifiers needed to verify it, along with a randomly generated label for that activation. It does not send, derive, or store anything that identifies your Mac. Those checks go to Polar, which issues and validates the license.
Service providers
We rely on Polar for payments and licensing, DataFast for site analytics, and ordinary hosting and infrastructure providers. They handle this information on our behalf, or as their own controller where they must, and only to provide those services. We do not sell your information or share it for advertising, and we disclose it otherwise only where the law requires it.
Cookies and analytics
We use DataFast to see how many people visit this site, which pages they read, how far down a page they get, and which link, search, or campaign brought them here. It sets one first-party cookie, datafast_visitor_id, containing a random identifier. It is readable only by this site, it is not an advertising cookie, and it does not follow you anywhere else.
That cookie is also what lets us connect a purchase back to the visit that led to it. When a purchase completes we send DataFast the order’s identifier, its amount and currency, your email address, and that visitor identifier, so the sale is counted against the right source. If we later refund you, we send the same order identifier again marked as refunded, so the money is taken back out of those figures as well. We do this so we can tell which of our efforts are worth repeating; we do not use it to build a profile of you or to advertise to you, and we do not sell it.
If you are visiting from the UK, the EU, the EEA or Switzerland we ask before setting it, and nothing is loaded until you say yes. Elsewhere it loads by default. Either way you can refuse or change your mind at any time, using the button below: refusing stops the script and deletes the cookie it set. You can also simply block cookies for this site, or use your browser’s private mode. The site works exactly the same, and a purchase made without that cookie is recorded without a source rather than guessed at.
Our hosting provider processes the ordinary request logs needed to deliver and secure the site. To decide whether we need to ask you, our servers read the country your request came from and record it in a short-lived cookie; that is the only thing we do with it, and it is not analytics.
Retention
Purchase records live with Polar for as long as the tax, accounting, and legal obligations that come with a sale require, under its own policy. Support correspondence is kept only while it is useful.
Security
We run no customer database and no payment details reach our systems, so there is very little here to secure: the app measures your Mac locally, and the record of your purchase sits with the provider that took the payment. No service can promise perfect security, but the less anyone holds, the less there is to lose.
International transfers
Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where that happens we rely on the contractual safeguards those providers apply to such transfers.
Your rights
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. You may ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, and depending on where you live you may have further rights. Write to jake@activityline.app and we will respond. Some records must be kept for a period for legal and accounting reasons, and we will say so if that applies to yours.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first at jake@activityline.app. If our answer does not resolve it, you can escalate to the privacy regulator where you live — in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Children
ActivityLine is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Other sites
Links to other sites, including our payment provider’s checkout, are governed by their own privacy policies rather than this one.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date above, and tell purchasers directly when a change materially affects them.
